75th Anniversary of the Institution of the George Cross and George Medal
On Thursday 24th September, 14 recipients of the George Cross, which ranks beside the Victoria Cross as the highest award for civilian gallantry, together with representatives from The Island of Malta GC, The RUC GC Foundation and 32 holders of the George Medal gathered together in London to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the institution of these two awards.
Among them was Christopher Finney, former member of the Blues and Royals, who was awarded the George Cross for acts of bravery under friendly fire in 2003 as he risked his life to save his fellow comrades after their Scimitar vehicles were hit, despite getting injured himself.
